The Dance of Pace
This journey is not defined by distance, nor by the number of passes conquered. It is defined by how it feels to move through a landscape when time is no longer something to chase. Over nine days, the route draws a sweeping arc from Barcelona to Milan, connecting some of the most striking riding regions of Southern Europe. The Pyrenees rise first—raw and immediate—before giving way to the softer elegance of Provence. From there, the road climbs again into the Maritime Alps, where the air sharpens and the views stretch endlessly.
Four borders are crossed almost without notice, marked less by lines on a map than by subtle shifts in culture, cuisine, and light. One day, set aside in the Ardèche, is left entirely open—a pause in the journey, where the only plan is your own.

Daily stages
Barcelona receives you the way only Barcelona can - with warmth, noise, architecture that stops you mid-step, and a table already waiting somewhere near the water. Tonight is for meeting your fellow travellers over a long dinner, the kind where the wine keeps coming and no one looks at the time.
The city dissolves behind you as the road climbs north into the Pyrenees, the air cooling degree by degree with every hairpin. By afternoon you arrive in Andorra - a mountain microstate wedged between empires, where the duty-free shops are an afterthought and the scenery is the real luxury.
Descending from the mountains into the soft, golden plains of Languedoc, the route passes beneath the impossible silhouette of Carcassonne - its medieval towers rising from the vines like an illustration from a book you read as a child. The final stretch into Castres follows the Agout river, unhurried and green.
The Tarn Gorge is one of southern France’s best-kept secrets - a plunging river canyon flanked by limestone cliffs that force the road into a continuous, thrilling conversation with the rock face. After Millau, whose viaduct floats above the valley like a drawn line of ink, the landscape opens into the wild, aromatic plateau of the Cévennes.
A day given back entirely. Some will ride the gorges of the Ardèche, a natural cathedral of carved limestone and emerald water. Others will find a terrace, a book, a glass of something cold - and remember that the best version of a holiday always includes at least one afternoon when you do absolutely nothing of consequence.
Provence does not reveal itself all at once - it offers itself in waves: the scent of lavender before you see it, the ochre of the villages before you reach them, the Roman columns of Vaison-la-Romaine standing with the untroubled patience of things that have outlasted everything. The evening base in Embrun sits at the foot of the Alps, where the mountains ahead are no longer a rumour.
You conquer the Col de la Bonette, on of the highest paved roads in the Alps - a place where the world below disappears and you find yourself riding through sky. The descent into the Mercantour wilderness, and then onward into the soft, vine-covered hills of Langhe, crosses a continental shift: from the severity of altitude into the deep, sensory generosity of Piemonte.
The final riding day winds through the UNESCO-listed vineyards of Barolo, where the nebbiolo grapes hang heavy on the autumn vines and every village carries the quiet pride of centuries of devoted winemaking. Through the rice paddies of Vercelli - a landscape impossibly flat after days of altitude - Milan finally appears: composed, elegant, and entirely ready to receive you.
It's over – for now. Bikes returned, bags packed, memories that won't fade. Milan Malpensa Airport is easy to reach by taxi. We'll see you on the next one.

Taste your way through four distinct culinary worlds: In Andorra and Catalonia, the journey begins with the honest mountain cuisine of the Pyrenees - aged Pyrenean cheese, pa amb tomàquet and a glass of Cava as a first hint of what lies ahead. In Cathar Country and southern France, cassoulet is non-negotiable: the rich, slow-cooked classic of white beans, confit de canard and Toulouse sausage, simmered in cast-iron pots for centuries. Provence surprises with aromatic lightness - tapenade, ratatouille, freshly baked fougasse and a glass of Côtes du Rhône beneath an old plane tree. In Piemonte, one of Italy's most noble regional kitchens awaits: handmade tajarin al tartufo, vitello tonnato and the Barolo - the king of Italian red wines, at home in the hills of the Langhe that you will ride through on the way to Milan.
