After hearing from a friend how he had enjoyed riding round the Sierra Nevada on bikes he had hired from Hispania-Tours, two friends and I decided to join him the following year (December 2005)
As I own a BMW 1150GS, I had on problem adapting to the bike I hired, (a well maintained BMW 1200GS) but was a bit apprehensive due to not having much experience at driving on the right, and not having toured for any long distances before. These worries were soon quashed when we reach the very quiet B roads going up to the Sierra Nevada, we hardly saw any other vehicles except the occasional cyclist, and the views were some of the finest I have ever seen.
In total we road several hundred Km over five days, all the roads were excellent, and the landscape were stunning. The accommodation suggested to us was excellent as was the food, (try the tapas) but a Spanish phrase book did come in handy.

The whole the experience was one I will never forget, and one I will defiantly repeat.

Liebe Freunde!

Hatte eine perfekte Marokko-Tour! Hier einige Eindrücke:
- herrliche Kurven in Andalusien - traumhaftes Mittagessen in Ceuta (La baracca) - Atlantikküste (Salz auf den Lippen) - der erste Minze-Tee - Austern auf dem Weg nach Safi - Marrakesch bei Nacht - Unendliche Weitblicke bei der Atlasüberquerung - "kleines Off-road-Diplom" - tausend Dattelpalmen - winkende Berberkinder: "Wheeli, wheeli....." - Sandsturm und Ankunft bei Vollmond - Sanddünen, Hotel mit Pool und Trommeln - Kamelritt und kalte Nacht im Wüstenzelt - strahlend blauer Himmel ohne Kondensstreifen - Gastfreundschaft - frischer Schnee im Atlasgebirge - schnelle Kurven und Straßen "ins nowhere" - wehmütiger Abschied (out of africa) - ein Leben langes Andenken - 620 Fotos............
Danke an Hannes, dass die Tour mit so wenigen Teilnehmern trotzdem zu Stande kam! Und danke an meine Kameraden Juan-Ma' (Ich bin immer hinter Dir, was immer auch passiert...) im Begleitfahrzeug und an meine Freunde Volker und Giroux für die schönen und unkomplizierten Tage.

Hola!

Hard to keep my comments short after such an exhilerating - if sometimes eerie - motorcycle tour across the Spanish Sierras and through the Atlas hairpins and desert stretches of Morocco. That I made it back whole is in and of itself a tour de force.

As for the value-added portion of the journey, let me delve a bit upon the quality/oddity of the participants.

There was Juan-Man - our "signal" guide or "morchid" - who, unbeknownst to us, had a deal with the "Man from the Agency" to chase down any enbankment and retrieve the carcass of anyone in the group who would have missed a hairpin and then chop off his head, boil it, shrink it - if not trade it - and have it hang on the Wall of Horrors of his cabin in the Spanish High Sierras.

There was Hannes - a true Hidalgo yet disarmingly adroit with his trick camera, always keen to capture angles denied to most of us mere mortals - whose Austrian Mariazell home brew is reputed to taste even better than that in the glass we raised to celebrate our successful return to La Herradura after "We had earned it". Can't wait to view and feast upon the products of his art.

Then there was El Catalan - Volker - who would make a lie of the old Spanish saying that "despues del ultimo, no hay nadie" for behind the ultimo would invariably stand Volker.

I had the pleasure of dining with him in Barcelona on the return leg of my journey - being mindful of course to sit with my back to the wall - where we resolved just about every remaining existential queries the world might still entertain. R.I.P. Soren Kierkegaard.

And last, but not least, The "Man from the Agency". Can't think of anything to fault him on. He's delivered on all his promises... and then some. His product is every bit as good as his word. You haven't lived till you've experienced it.

And as a parting comment, a word to the wise : "A quien buen carajo tiene, seguro va, y seguro viene!"

	Monday, 21-11-05 13:05 I just finished the marroco shiroco tour with the agency. Perfectly organized, dreamlike landscapes, 3200 km of magic streets and the feeling that it ended much to early. Big recomendation for all of you who are looking for an exotic adventure on best mantain bike material ! But wach your back, you´ll never know ;-)

In October 2005 I participated in the 'Andalucia Classic' tour and I am writing to tell everyone reading this page that it was well worth the money. The route taken, the places we visited and the flexibility with which our guide was able to conduct the tour was outstanding. The real benefit of travelling with Hispania Tours though is the fact that it does not feel like an organised tour. It feels like you are a group of motorcycling friends who are following a route one of you chose. My trip was a holiday and a great motorcycle trip in one and same package, and the weather was wonderful too!

Hi Johannes,

wir möchten Dein Gästebuch nutzen, um uns nochmal ganz herzlich bei Dir zu bedanken.
Nun ist es schon wieder 1 Woche her, dass wir zurück sind und glaub uns: WIR KÖNNTEN SCHON WIEDER LOS!!!
Kerstin hat die Tour sehr genossen. Und auch wenn ich schon im letzten Jahr fast die gleiche Strecke gefahren bin (im Mai 2004), muss ich sagen, dass die Landschaft mich diesesmal wieder in Ihren Bann gezogen hat. Diese großen Unterschiede zwischen Frühjahr und Spätsommer sind für einen Norddeutschen kaum zu verstehen. Auch wenn uns vielleicht im nächsten Jahr die Zeit fehlt, können wir jetzt schon eines versprechen: WIR KOMMEN WIEDER. Sei es nun eine Tour auf eigene Faust oder eine von Dir geführte Tour.
Also nochmal: Vielen Dank für die reibungslose und unkomplizierte Abwicklung und Organisation und natürlich für die geniale 1200er.

Thank you very much for your great service. It is nice when the little things like airport transportaion and the hostal go smoothly so you can focus on the riding. We really liked the BWM 1200 GS, it was the perfect machine for Southern Spain - it likes the highways as much as the cobble stones in Ronda. We are already planning our next motorcycle trip. See you again soon!

Liebes Hispania-Tour-Team!

Mei[..] Spontanurlaub wurde dank Eurer Hilfe zum Traum! Ich habe es total genossen. Die 4 Tage kamen mir vor wie 2 Wochen. Ich bin normalerweise nicht der Typ, der sich schwärmend in Gästebücher im Internet einträgt, aber hier muß ich eine Ausnahme machen!
Mein Tipp an alle Unentschlossenen: BITTE MACHT ES, EGAL OB 3 ODER 14 TAGE. Ihr werdet genauso begeistert sein wie ich.

Lieber Johannes,
es ist zwar schon einige Tage her, dass wir aus Marokko zurück sind, doch möchten wir es nicht versäumen, uns für die wundervolle Reise und die unvergesslichen Tage von Herzen zu bedanken. Ihr habt eine wunderschöne Tour ausgearbeitet, die uns auch ein wenig Andalusien näher gebracht und sich in Marokko von Tag zu Tag gesteigert hat.
Wir sind herrliche Straßen gefahren, haben abwechslungsreiche Landschaften erlebt, sind eingetaucht in das arabisch-orientalische Leben, waren mit den Kamelen in der Wüste, haben uns in Safi, Marrakech und Fes ein Stück weit ins Mittelalter versetzen und in eine andere Welt entführen lassen. Unvergessen auch der ungeplante Abstecher durch Telouèt entlang des Canyons mit den drei Flussdurchquerungen, den sonst nur Allradfahrzeuge wagen oder die Umfahrung der Erg Chebbi für Hermann und Werner.
Zwar gab es - sehr zu Werner’s und Walter’s Leidwesen - kaum Wein und Bier, doch sogar sie haben sich an Wasser und Tee à la Luisa gewöhnt.
Die Betreuung hätte kaum besser sein können, über Nacht wurden die Motorräder gewartet, geölt, geschmiert und dann sogar wieder in Fahrtrichtung umgeparkt. Dafür auch an Juan-Manuel, der sich mit allen auch nonverbal super verstand und uns allen jeden Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen hat, unser herzlichstes Dankeschön. Macht weiter so - wir jedenfalls empfehlen Euch sehr gerne und ohne Einschränkung weiter.
